  1. Was definitely an interesting year... Btw I just finished reading House of Suns and it shook me to my core. What a masterpiece... Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for an experience I will likely never forget.

  2. I wonder what Iain may've said about that drop. And: I'm half way through Shards of Earth this holidays and it is the first of Adrian's books that was strongly reminiscent to me of both Iain's settings and politics and your characters, combat and aliens. I recommend it if you want a fun read from a peer. Merry Xmas!

    1. Thanks for the recommendation.

As for the whisky, I'm not sure if it would have been to Iain's taste but Penderyn is quite well regarded in the wider whisky world. I have quite a lot of different bottles.

    2. I once had the tremendous pleasure of buying Iain Banks a drink when I spotted him in the pub prior to a book event. He asked for a Talisker :-)

Alistair > just ordered a back issue of that NS so am looking forward to reading, keep the blog updates coming and I hope you have a productive 2024 !

    3. Talisker's nice! I'm no great expert but some I enjoy are Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Old Pulteney & Glenmorangie. Thanks for ordering the NS.

  3. I loved Chasm City! You included twenty or more cool ideas, any one of which a lesser author would have developed an entire novel around, yet you wove them into one intricate, unpredictable, captivating tale. I was especially impressed with how well you pulled off the main character's unique character arc. Of the 50 books I read in 2023 Chasm City was my favorite novel. Last year Century Rain was one of my favorites. I have added The Prefect and House of Suns to my to-be-read list. Thanks! - Jon in Alexis, NC, USA

  4. Hi there!
Off topic, but is there anywhere to order (pre-order?) a signed copy of Machine Vendetta? Big fan and always seek to get signed first editions of your novels. Searched Goldsboro, SubPress and Anderida, where I usually got them in the past, but they don't seem to have this one. Thank you!

    1. I've just signed some sheets for Anderida, so they should be listing their editions before too long. I haven't done any for Goldsboro yet as I won't be up in London for a bit and it seems a bit mad to go all that way just to sign a few books.

    2. Thank you!! Will keep checking Anderida then.
