A bit more

Some more of the book up on the Gollancz blog, for your enjoyment (or otherwise).

Glad to hear that copies of the book are reaching people, and indeed some are already well into the book.

  1. I just got an email from Amazon UK saying that they shipped my copy of BRE, so I'm definitely going to hold off on reading any excerpts!

Kind of off topic, but I'm just now finishing up Century Rain (Don't know why it took me so long to get to it.) I've literally spent 8-9 hours a day for the past few days reading it. It's not too often that a book will make me do that!

  2. Bought and read it yesterday - very impressed as always, the only problem is that now I've got to wait for you to write the next one!

  3. Looking forward to reading more. Forbidden Planet have them in stock but won't sell till tomorrow, even after I pleaded with them that i'm off to work tonight in Russia and won't be back for a week. Will you be signing any extra copies when your there this weekend that the staff can sell? I'd really appreciate one if you can?

  5. Hi R Doyle: I don't know how it works but when I'm in Forbidden Planet they often get me to sign books for customers who aren't present. Failing that, I'm sure I can have a word - do you want to drop me an email with a bit more information?

Joff: slow down, mate - took me 2 years! Glad you liked it, though.

    1. I got my English (live in Austria) copy from Thalia yesterday. It was already the last copy. But perhaps they don't have too many copies here, was just pleased they had it for the official release date. Hardly started reading yet, but so far its interesting enough. Just hope there not too much "cousin" hate throughout ;).

Anyway always looking forward to the new ideas. Its nice to have a more positive view of the future too. I always wonder why we (humans) seem so bent on apocalyptic futures just a generation out, no matter how many times it never happens. I actually believe that our future is pretty bright.

Kinda ot, but what is next on the board? A sequel to House of Suns? More revelation space, say The Prefect sequel? Also looking forward to Terminal world series too.

    Many thanks,

  7. I am half way through BRE, but I enjoy every page. Congratulations to a splendid novel! Sci-Fi at its absolutely best. A vision of the future that sounds tempting and apalling at once.

    Thank you!

  8. I've just finished BRE and absolutely loved it! An excellently written new world, I can't wait to pick up it's sequel in a years time (or sooner!).

  9. I finished BRE w/e before last. I think we got it here in Sydney the day you posted your picture holding the book!

Read it at pace as I always do ;-)

Some random thoughts - it actually took me a little while to get into BRE, which was strange as I've been caught early by every other book you've written. Not sure why but it was probably to do with the fact that I didn't like Geoffrey much nor his single-minded focus on the elephants. TBH by mid-way I was wishing you had written the book based on his grandmother!

However, by the end I had totally bought into the story. I am intrigued about how the next book will develop. I liked the UAN concept and cannot wait to read more about that. And I also really liked the fact that we have a storyline based on the Sol-system. The distances involved make my head hurt! Overall, another great read! And another trade paperback to add to my very handsome AR collection.

    Cheers!
