Ladytron

For the Manic Pop Thrills podcast I picked a few songs for Mike to insert into the interview, but of course we didn't play them on the night. Listening to part 1 of the podcast now, I'm once again reminded of how utterly bloody fantastic this song is:

The video is equally marvellous and bizarre. I have the sense that it's referencing something, anyone know what? Some half-remembered East European childrens TV series, perhaps?

  1. The new Ladytron album is out soon, single "White Elephant" is wonderful electro-psychedelic in the style of Broadcast. If you're up for some electropop, here's a Spotify playlist I've been putting together:

  2. I read some comments on Youtube; some said this video referenced "Neverending Story" (esp. that creature).

  4. I asked some of my synthpop friends if they knew what this video was about. Someone pointed to an entry on wikipedia and though that it is from a Asian legend. Someone else said that he'dnoticed Chinese temples on the mountains & a raised wooden bridge at one point, and thought that perhaps it was a reference to the thousands of Chinese who laboured in snow & ice to build the railroads through mountains of US west in 1800s.

So, nothing definite yet. Another friend of mine (who writes a music blog called The Electricity Club) has an interview with Ladytron lined up so I asked him to find out about this video directly from the source ;)

  5. "kletva" from their album Velocifero is apparently a cover of a song from a Bulgarian's kids movie, so you never know

  6. unrelated to the video except its to do with outer space and music composition, but thought it might intrigue. http://vimeo.com/24410924
