This is bloody fantastic.

  1. I'm very interested in Progressive/Indie/Psychedelic rock... Never heard of them but sound really good!
    Thank you!

  2. Wow, that was definitely worth pausing Allan Holdsworth for! Thanks for posting this - I have been searching for some new music as of late. I really like the atmosphere on this!

  3. I know, it's a shame they never followed up that track with the same amount of fantastic.

Now...have you listened to Mogwai's latest album, that's a real treat.

  4. Nice. With the bass line and the atmospherics, reminds me quite a bit of Anekdoten.

  5. @bourgon:

I actually made the same Anekdoten comparison before hitting the backspace button because I figured no one else had ever heard of them! The first thought that popped into my head was "Wow, this could have been an outtake from Gravity!"

  6. I concur. That is (expletive) brilliant! Thanks for the tip.

  7. Kevin: haven't heard anything from Mogwai since "Young Team", which is going back a while now. I caught them live around then as well. I must admit that whole post-rock thing left me a little cold but perhaps I should investigate more.

Never heard of Anekdoten, I must confess, but I'll investigate.

This weekend I got hold of the Fleet Foxes album (for some reason it had been out of stock whenever I tried to buy it from my local HMV) but I like it very much.

  8. Sorry to barge in here... I'm currently reading "Terminal World". Is there any _map_ of the planet during the time of the story? I'm trying to visualize it, and my brain keeps going, "Need more data!"

  9. Hi Michael

No map, no - hopefully there are enough clues in the story to enable the reader to orientate themselves, but don't worry too much if you can't.

  10. Oh, I'm not *worried*, per se, just having difficulties visualizing where on our planet this is all happening. ;-) Remembering, of course, that this is the far future and the sea level is lower. Maybe I just need to keep reading, and I'll figure it out!

  11. Something completely different and yet so painfully relevant. "La Barca" music/video of approaching train somewhere in Japan gives shivers. Watch "Nuuk" and think of cold plains of Antarctica or Europa, your choice :)

  12. Fleet Foxes usually play a cover of Judee Sill at their concerts. If you never heard of her it might be worth checking out. She made two albums in the 70's. Her story is rather tragic.

The name of the song is Crayon Angels:

This leaves me silent everytime I hear it:

    Hope you enjoy it.

  13. Yes, the Midlake-album is pure awesome! "Young Bride" - what a wonderful tune. Just to name an example that is.

Bought a Midlake CD on the strength of this video... truly brilliant.
