Another slickly-produced video for your perusal, this one looking at the Eagle and the fantastic MPC kit. I was just about to go out and do a 14K training run.
Chris Foss's 1973 illustration for The Early Asimov, which appears to have influenced the design of the Eagle.
Hope this is of interest. Once again, any donations to my Cancer Research Wales half-marathon fundraiser will be greatly appreciated.
Hi there, in fact Chris Foss did some work on the Eagle early on in the series development. You can see his version here (clickable image) https://catacombs.space1999.net/main/models/eagle/w2meagle.html
ReplyDeleteThanks, Garry - that's really interesting. I met Chris Foss at one of the Worldcons, it was a real thrill to meet such a legend.
DeleteI have indeed enjoyed these videos so I felt I had to do my part with the donation. Hopefully it wont be raining the day it all happens!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Andreas. I'll be ready for all eventualities, weather-wise, but hoping for mild weather, not too warm or windy. A bit of light rain (so long as it stays light) can be quite pleasant on a long run.
DeleteSpace 1999 was before my time, but I remember the Eagle among hand-me-down toys from older kids and my older cousins, almost always with the cargo modules missing.
ReplyDeleteAs you held up the larger model, I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the Eagle and the Battlestars Galactica and Pegasus from the 2004 reboot.
Not so much in detail as in form factor, with the "alligator head" of battlestar designs echoing that of the Eagle, the long body and the way the engines are arranged. There's definitely an Eagle influence there.
Nice work on your build, and that Enterprise in the background is impressively large. I wish they'd release a model of that size and quality for the Enterprise-D.
