"Thunderbirds 2086". It seemed almost like speculative hard science fiction. In those days Japanese animation/manga was not common in the West and most of it was (heavily localized/rewritten) Star Wars toy-selling, franchise-style space opera: Galaxy Express 999, Space Cruiser Yamato (Star Blazers); Macross (Robotech).

And yet now there is still very little speculative fiction in anime or manga, at least in English; the only other examples I can think of are also not very popular: the manga "2001 Nights" and (anime and manga) "Planetes"(sic). Maybe there are other gems still untranslated or buried under a neverending tsunami of trite shonen crap....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5143440998478479157.post-71428971200621503612019-04-02T19:26:26.390-07:002019-04-02T19:26:26.390-07:00Memories of my youth.....yes I'm envious;but a...Memories of my youth.....yes I'm envious;but also glad to see that we share some tastesmontrealmikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06630395627188756343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5143440998478479157.post-35586088962385334122019-03-25T02:05:05.504-07:002019-03-25T02:05:05.504-07:00Look forward to seeing this one- jealous!Look forward to seeing this one- jealous!Nathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07562489207268326426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5143440998478479157.post-55955919366549191112019-03-21T08:18:33.559-07:002019-03-21T08:18:33.559-07:00Where would Thunderbirds have been without the odd...Where would Thunderbirds have been without the odd "design flaw".Al Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01517967406876572177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5143440998478479157.post-26395991308490688302019-03-21T06:22:36.724-07:002019-03-21T06:22:36.724-07:00OOoooooh the Fireflash!
