Possible issue with Kindle formatting on US edition of Eversion.

I've seen a note on Amazon.com from a Mr Zimmerman stating that there appears to be a formatting issue with dialogue quotes in the US Kindle edition of Eversion. I'm not in a position to replicate the fault myself, but I've raised it with my US publishing team so hopefully there will be a resolution. If anyone else has seen the error, it might be worth mentioning it here. Thanks.

  1. I'm about halfway through the book -- which is excellent, by the way -- and have seen this formatting error on several occasions. It seems to only affect the opening quotation marks at paragraph beginnings. e.g., the screenshot at roughly the center of the page here: https://imgur.com/a/d0s9gnu

  2. Happened on my U.S. Kindle copy as well, just as Jake says above.

  3. Yeah, definitely an issue with my US Kindle copy. Didn't prevent me from reading it in two nights. One of your best!

  4. Does the issue in question involves missing opening quote marks for some dialogue, mostly (or perhaps only) at the start of lines? I've noticed this in my copy. It's recurrent through the book, but not systematic. A random specific example from the page I'm currently on: ch 20, the line

    Of course, Silas."
I was just about to step into the vac-lift

This is in the Kobo (epub), not the Kindle format, and I think the publisher is the US one here too, but I'm in Canada.

It's noticeable, but not really distracting. I'm in chapter 20 and having way too much fun with the story to be bothered by a minor formatting issue.

  7. same on the Canadian Google Books version, but again, doesn't prevent enjoying the book or understanding the content.

  8. Still present in the US version but, as per others, does not diminish the enjoyability of the book.

  9. I've heard that the cause of the problem has been identified and fixed, but if it's not tracking through to the files, I'll raise it again (!).

  10. Just finished my US Kindle version, and wondered about this repeating glitch all the way through. But.. I recently hired an overseas contractor to format my own ms for Kindle, and spent weeks fixing errors they introduced. A similar story here, perhaps?
